Things are going reasonably well – the seven fledglings (including one Blue Gouldian), are all fit and healthy and now weaned from their parent birds.
In the adult nesting space, we currently have 7 pairs sitting on broods, but none in the Main Aviary where there are 12 birds (6 hen birds and 6 cock birds). For whatever reason they all seem unwilling to select partners (which would lead to nest box activity). With 6 sets of potential pairs in the cage, it is surprising that only one pair have gone to nest so far (earlier in March), but ended up with an infertile brood of 4 eggs (a point we noted in our previous blog post).
Below are some pics from the main cage of some birds feeding on wild grass seed. In this cage are most of our Blue Gouldians and Normal Split for Blue Gouldians.
During the week, we introduced Moxidectin Plus to the water for the birds over two day period to assist with controlling any worm or mite infestations worrying the birds.
In the other cages there is a bit more breeding activity going on which is described in further detail in the various cage pages.
